What unions do


In AFT President Randi Weingarten’s latest New York Times  column, she describes what it is exactly that unions do. Though unions are the most popular they have been in decades, anti-union sentiment still thrives in red states and across the nation. “Several years ago, The Atlantic ran a story whose headline made even me, a labor leader, scratch my head: ‘Union Membership: Very Sexy,’” Weingarten writes in the column. “The gist was that higher wages, health benefits and job security—all associated with union membership—boost one’s chances of getting married. Belonging to a union doesn’t actually guarantee happily ever after, but it does help working people have a better life in the here and now.” Click through to read the full column.

During our 2021 Baltimore City negotiations cycle, CUB was presented with a compensation study report, conducted by the Baltimore City Department of Human Resources. In this report, numerous CUB positions were proposed to have grade increases. These grade increases were to have been implemented on or about July 1, 2022, the beginning of the fiscal year 2023 (this implementation would not have warranted any back pay at that time). BCPS Sick Leave Conversion


Baltimore City Public School System CUB represented employees desiring to convert sick leave days to cash, you DON'T NEED TO DO ANYTHING, your conversion will automatically be processed for payment on December 9, 2022.

Employees that wish to opt out of the Sick Leave CONVERSION and NOT cash any sick leave days have until FRIDAY 2, 2022 to opt out. You must use "Employees Self-Service" to opt out.
