Efforts to privatize the water supply in Baltimore got more difficult as the leadership of the City Union of Baltimore and allies offered testimony and support for a city council resolution that would take the matters to the voters in November. CUB President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson addressed the council, reminding them of the value of public goods, both as a shared resource and also as a provider of stable jobs for city residents.

Today, judicial activists on the Supreme Court sided with corporate interest to weaken public sector unions by significantly reducing funding and creating incentives to erode Union membership with their ruling in Janus v. AFSCME Council 31. But, as always, we will stand firm against the headwinds of decades long, anti-union sentiment, because our members know: In unity there is strength.

The Maryland/DC Alliance for Retired Americans held a statewide meeting at the Baltimore Teachers Union. The group gathered to discuss a number of issues pertinent to members of the organization. Retirees from the City Union of Baltimore and the Baltimore Teachers Union made up a significant number of those in attendance. Retirees from other AFL-CIO unions including AFSCME and SEIU were also in attendance.
