Union Supports "Baltimore Reads" Book Drive

The Metropolitan Baltimore Council AFL-CIO Unions is helping the "Baltimore Reads" Book Bank by encouraging union members to donate books for that organization's "Fall Book Drive."  The goal is to gather 1,000 children's and adult level books.

Children's books are distributed for free to schools, families and organizations to help insure that all children have books in the home.  Their greatest need is for young children's picture books.

Books for adults help raise funds for the Book Bank and Workforce Development Program. The ultimate goal is to one day be able to fund the Book Bank's literacy instructional programs as well.

How much does your adult level book donation matter?

   - 10 books will help raise enough money to put 300 children's books on a school library shelf.

   - 100 books will help us raise enough money to pay for maintenance for our van.

   - 200 books pays for training for one person from The Mayor's Office of Employment  Development.

-500 books allows us to provide books to mothers and children in DSS center waiting rooms .

Every book matters and every book helps. Please inform your friends and ask them to help Baltimore Reads continue to provide more than 100,000 free books each year to children in need.

To date we have distributed over 1.5 million books!  Each year Baltimore Reads provides books to more than 24,000 children!

They really need picture books, nonfiction books and books for adults.

All book donations are tax deductible and we can pick up your donations no matter how small!

The Book Bank is located in the Baltimore Sun Complex at 501 North Calvert Street, 21202.
