A Message From the President

A Message

From the President

In 2004, I published my vision for this Union and am pleased to say that much progress has

been made to achieve that vision. Below are a few highlights confirming the Union’s commitment

to fight for the rights of all CUB members.

GRIEVANCE AND ARBITRATIONS

·                     In addition to numerous successful grievances, we challenged the City on seven arbitrations for unfair treatment of our members.  CUB won all 7 arbitrations.

      LABOR NEGOTIATIONS

·                     Negotiated 12% salary increase for BCPSS & Baltimore City, largest in CUB history.

·                     Negotiated, i.e. - upgrades, hazardous duty pay, tuition reimbursement, 5-year vacation accrual, stronger protections for active military, etc.

MEMBER BENEFITS

·                     New Benefit: CUB Pre-Paid Legal Benefits Plan now provides members with broad array of legal representation and protection.

      POLITICAL

·                     Defeated management’s attempt to contract-out more than 40 jobs.

·                     Gained significant respect from city politicians during extensive discussions over jobs, wages, and fair working conditions.

LEGISLATION

·                     CUB introduced an Amendment to the City Charter obtaining worker’s right to challenge terminations, suspensions of over 30 days, and demotions.

·                     CUB sponsored Question “L” won by an overwhelmingly 90,000 votes in the November 2006 election.

EEOC

·                     Achieved promotion for a qualified female worker and challenged management’s selection process.

SAFETY & HEALTH

·                     Achieved city-wide improvements in work station ergonomics in cooperation with City safety officer.
