On the Passing of CUB Member Charles Johnson

STATEMENT ON PASSING OF CITY UNION OF BALTIMORE MEMBER AND DPW EMPLOYEE CHARLES JOHNSON

BALTIMORE, MD- Sadly, the City Union of Baltimore (CUB) family has been struck by the global pandemic that has terrorized many Americans. Charles Johnson was a valued member of our union and a dedicated Baltimore City employee. We are all saddened by his death and extend our condolences to his family during their time of bereavement.

This tragic loss underscores how important it is for all of us to do our best to protect one another. Essential city workers have continually worked since the beginning of this pandemic to ensure the city and its services continue to run as smoothly as possible. These workers deserve their fellow community members to engage in social distancing, and to wear masks that cover their nose and mouth when interacting with them. These workers deserve the most effective personal protective equipment (PPE) that can be provided for them. CUB in addition to our state and national affiliate partners, AFT-Maryland and AFT, will continue to provide PPE for its members working on the front lines of city services. Our union has and will continue to serve members and aid them with whatever they need to be safe and successful at the workplace.

President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson, the Executive Board and Staff of the City Union of Baltimore extend our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Charles Johnson. His service and commitment to the City of Baltimore were invaluable.
