The City Union of Baltimore Retiree Chapter (CUB 800-R) held elections and officer installation on Friday, September 20, 2019. Donald Morris was re-elected President. James Carroll will serve as the Vice President, with Betty Lee as Treasurer and Elizabeth Morris as Secretary. The election was overseen by CUB president Antoinette Ryan-Johnson. Following the counting of ballots, the officers were sworn in by AFT-Maryland president, Marietta English.

The Maryland/DC Alliance for Retired Americans held a statewide meeting at the Baltimore Teachers Union. The group gathered to discuss a number of issues pertinent to members of the organization. Retirees from the City Union of Baltimore and the Baltimore Teachers Union made up a significant number of those in attendance. Retirees from other AFL-CIO unions including AFSCME and SEIU were also in attendance.

The City Union of Baltimore, Local #800 (CUB) chartered their retiree chapter, CUB-R, and held an immaculate reception to commemorate the occasion. CUB board members as well as current active members were in attendance. The event was held in the large conference room of the Baltimore Teachers Union. Retirees, AFT-Maryland staff, and AFT National Staff worked diligently to get chapter chartered and operating.

Working members and retirees alike enjoyed delicious food and engaging conversation among themselves and members of other AFT-Maryland unions who came out in solidarity. The retiree chapter

The annual seminar is an opportunity for leaders of newer chapters to talk about how to engage members so that they will be more active in their chapters, and to learn how to build connections with both active members and the community. On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, CUB retirees joined a rally sponsored by the Alliance for Retired Americans and the AFL-CIO in opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) at the Baltimore World Trade Center.

LaVerne Foster, the CUB Retiree Chapter President, reports that they want to let people know that retirees are FIRED UP about the TPP agreement.

Voting for the TPP would mean fewer jobs and lower wages for American workers. TPP also contains extreme patent protections for name-brand pharmaceuticals that threaten to restrict access to cheaper lifesaving medicines in all TPP countries
