An open letter to Maryland State Governor Martin O'Malley from AFT-Maryland President, Marietta English.

The letter expresses concern and disappointment with the inability of our political leaders to reach agreement over our state budget. 23 counties and the city of Baltimore will lose over $260 million, with the impact hitting hardest in areas that are most reliant on state revenues and that can least afford the reductions.

Everyday people will be affected in every way.

Employee Free Choice Act

Passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, which was introduced March 10 in both houses of Congress, would be an important step in protecting workers who want to form a union without interference from employers who often ruthlessly beat back those efforts to unionize, AFT president Randi Weingarten says.
Following the introduction of the act, the AFT is urging members, as part of the “Fight for America’s Future: It’s Dollars and Sense” campaign, to call or write to their senators and representatives to support the legislation's swift passage. For more information, resources and easy links to your representatives in Congress, go to http://www.aft.org/fight4america.

Union members will gather in Annapolis March 23 to fight for fair share legislation!
