Are state workers not Maryland families? Governor Hogan said Maryland families have been tightening their belts, but his new budget makes state workers tighten them even more. ​Under the Governor's budget, well deserved and long overdue Cost of Living increases will be taken back by the State.

In accordance with the CUB Constitution and By-laws, Article 1, Section 1, this is to inform you of the increase in Per-Capita* (pass-through) tax since 2007 in the amount of six dollars and fifty-three cents ($6.53) per month. This pass-through increases were voted on at the 2008, 2010, 2014 American Federation of Teachers (AFT) National Convention and the AFT-Maryland Constitutional Convention in 2009 and 2013. The time has come for me to turn a new chapter in my life. As of December 31st, I am retiring as a 45 year employee of the Baltimore City Public School System, 17 years with the City Union of Baltimore.

I have had the privilege and honor to be associated with the City Union of Baltimore since it was organized in 1987; serving as a steward, area vice president, executive board member and CUB employee. Being a part of the union movement has afforded me so many priceless and unforgettable moments and experiences. I have travelled all across this great country of ours and made friends in every city

Various organizations converged on City Hall on Monday, October 27th, to make a host of demands. Among the most important issues was the question of whether to privatize the city water supply. AFT Maryland affiliates including members of the Baltimore Teachers Union and the City Union of Baltimore joined with AFT National and other labor unions and progressive organizations at a Sept. 18 rally on Capitol Hill to protect seniors' hard earned benefits. Speakers included Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Keith Ellison (D-MN).
