CUB Statement on State Takeover of Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant

It is of the utmost importance that the state and city ensure that sewage and wastewater run off does not pollute the Chesapeake Bay. Our members at wastewater treatment facilities across the city are eager to do everything in their power to give those in the Baltimore region trust in the safety and cleanliness of our environment. We welcome updated infrastructure and other necessary mechanical and technical improvements that will help our members do their jobs. Most important for us however is the question of resources. February is American Heart Month and Feb. 4th is National Wear Red Day. Sadly cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. This is true across race and gender. We want you to be as healthy as possible, and spreading awareness about heart health is just one way we can help do that. It’s never too late to start being healthy! We cannot let our guard down and lapse on the known safety and health measures that help reduce the spread of the virus. These basic health and safety considerations must be seen as paramount for maintaining layers of protection in the workplace. CUB will host training sessions with AFT in which participants will learn about five key strategies to minimize exposure to COVID-19 and how to keep yourself safe at work. Sister Geneva Ayers Arrangements

Dear Brothers and Sisters of CUB,

It is with a sad heart that I inform you of the passing of our beloved Sister Geneva B. Ayers. Sister Ayers worked in the Finance Department for Baltimore City and served as an Area Vice President on the Executive Board and Steward Council for CUB members. After retiring, she continued her legacy and fight by becoming a member of CUB-800R, our Retiree Chapter. Sister Geneva will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held for Sister Geneva on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Vaughn Green Funeral Home 8728 Liberty Road Randallstown, Maryland 21133. The family

NOTICE to ALL CITY OF BALTIMORE CUB MEMBERS SUBJECT: HEALTH CARE WAIVER BENEFITS For years, the MOU for CUB included a payment benefit of $650 for any bargaining unit member who elected to decline medical benefits during open enrollment, upon a showing that the member had medical benefits provided to them from another source. In some cases, for example, the source of medical benefits came from a spouse or equivalent who also worked for the City and elected spousal or family coverage. In other cases, the source of medical benefits came from a spouse or equivalent who worked for a non-city employer who’s plan also covered the member. Admin Leave Available for Flu Shots

Annual Seasonal Influenza Vaccination & Certification Form was sent out via e-blast to all Baltimore City employees from the Office of the Labor Commissioner (Bulletin 21-23, below, or click here). City employees may be granted up to 3 hours of adminstrative leave (permission leave) through Dec. 30, 2021 to visit their doctor or pharmacy to receive an annual influenza vaccination. Employees must get permission from their immediate supervisor. Use Administrative Leave Code 167. The Certification Form is also linked here (or click the image below).
