Also as the Committee on Political Education (COPE) Chairman, I continue attending sessions at the General Assembly in Annapolis; participated in the submission of bills to the Baltimore City Council; served on the interview panel for candidates seeking endorsements from labor; member of the Legislative Committee for AFT-Maryland.

It has been my privilege to be president for about a year and a half. I have taken this position to do my best to continue our growth with your help. My vision is to improve communication with our members, as well as stakeholders, and to protect the rights and benefits of our members.

CUB continues to participate in building, reinstating and developing coalitions that will enhance our effectiveness in the labor community. We have membership on the Health Care Committee for Baltimore City giving labor a stronger voice in the development of future health care benefits.

Maryland delegates represented Baltimore Teachers Union, BCFPE, BCFPHN, City Union of Baltimore, MPEC, and AFT Healthcare-Maryland.

CUB members stood with postal workers on Sunday, June 22nd at a "Stop Staples!" rally. Community members gathered in front of the Staples store at Eastpoint Mall on Eastern Avenue in Baltimore Sunday afternoon to tell the retail store to stop attacking good jobs and public post offices.

Members of the City Union of Baltimore and AFT-Maryland attended an orientation for new city employees June 12th.

CUB used the occasion to inform the new employees of the benefits of CUB membership. Nine employees joined CUB after hearing a presentation by Maxine Holmes, CUB Labor Relations Specialist, and Janelle Edmonds, an AFT-Maryland Organizer. 

CUB conducts outreach and recruitment efforts every month to inform employees of the benefits of union membership.

Good evening, ladies and gentleman, sisters and brothers, I would like to OFFICIALLY welcome you to the City Union of Baltimore’s annual membership meeting.

The City Union of Baltimore launched its Reclaiming the Promise program on May 21. CUB leaders and activists signed on to the initiative during a stewards meeting and took hundreds of pledge cards back to their workplaces for colleagues to sign.

CUB, a public employee affiliate of the AFT, will use its Reclaiming the Promise of Quality Public Services for Strong Communities program to raise funds for needy members of their community. The union and its members will also reach out to residents of Baltimore to make them aware of the goals of Reclaiming the Promise.
