Baltimore City Schools Open Enrollment
Welcome Back! 2023 Benefits open Enrollment
October 24 through November 4, 2022

This year, City Schools is pleased to welcome our students, teachers, and staff back to our classrooms and buildings to a more normal routine and setting. City Schools appreciates you and all employees for your commitment to our schools and our students. Thank you for all you do.

As open enrollment for your 2023 benefits approaches, we’re welcoming you back to our open enrollment process and our in-person health and wellness fairs.

No Changes for 2023

We are pleased to announce that there will not be any changes to your benefit plans or options for 2023. To learn more about your benefit options and your costs for 2023, look for your open enrollment newsletter with more information, coming to your home mailbox in October. You can also visit Employee Self-Service and click 2023 Benefits Information. You’ll find comparison charts, brochures, and summaries of the benefits.

Other Important Things to Know

  • Add Social Security Numbers for any dependents who do not have one listed in Employee Self-Service.
  • Open Enrollment is your only opportunity during the year to change your benefit elections (unless you have a qualifying life event during the year). Review your options to make sure you have the best coverage for your situation.
  • If you wish to participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for 2023, you must re-enroll during open enrollment even if you are currently enrolled. If you do not re-enroll, you will not have an FSA for 2023.
  • Submit documentation for newly added dependents (via via HumanCapital@bcps.k12.md.us or in office by November 4).
  • Print or save a copy of your enrollment confirmation when you are finished – you may need this as verification later.
  • November 4 is the deadline to review your coverage, enroll for 2023, and submit required documentation for new dependents on Employee Self-Service.
  • You must submit evidence of insurability before your enrollment in Optional Life, Spousal Life, and Long-Term Disability is effective (you will receive a letter from The Hartford with details).

Here are important steps you can take to make the most of your benefits in 2023:

  1. Watch your mailbox: Look for your open enrollment newsletter in the mail. Carefully review it for your benefit options, Be Well program information, 2023 rates, and enrollment details.

  2. Visit a health and wellness fair: You can get your flu shot, talk with plan representatives, get answers to your benefit questions, receive free and fun health screenings, enjoy free giveaways, and more!
